🌍 About the Deity

Bhumi Devi, the Earth goddess, is the nurturing force that supports all life. She is considered the consort of Lord Vishnu and represents patience, fertility, and stability. Bhumi Puja honors her presence and seeks permission to disturb her surface for construction, ensuring harmony between nature and human effort.

📖 Kahaniyan (Stories Behind the Pooja)

  • Bhumi Devi and Varaha Avatar: When the demon Hiranyaksha submerged Earth into the cosmic ocean, Lord Vishnu took the form of Varaha (boar) and rescued Bhumi Devi. This story shows the sacredness of Earth and the divine protection she receives. Bhumi Puja honors this bond before any human intervention.
  • Vastu Purush Legend: Vastu Purush is a celestial being said to lie face down on every plot of land. The gods assigned him to guard directions and energies. Bhumi Puja, along with Vastu Shanti, pleases him and aligns the site with cosmic balance.
  • King Janaka’s Ploughing Ritual: In Ramayan, King Janaka found baby Sita while ploughing the land during a sacred ritual. This story reflects how Earth responds to sincere intention and devotion, blessing the land with divine gifts.
