🚗 About the Ritual
New Vehicle Pooja is a sacred ritual that invokes Lord Ganesh for obstacle-free travel and Lord Vishwakarma for mechanical harmony and craftsmanship. In some traditions, Navagraha mantras are also chanted to align planetary energies for safe movement. This pooja is a blend of gratitude and protection.
📖 Kahaniyan (Stories Behind the Pooja)
- Ganesh’s Blessing for Journeys: In ancient times, travelers would worship Ganesh before setting out. One story tells of a merchant who ignored this and faced repeated breakdowns. After performing Ganesh Pooja, his travels became smooth. This shows Ganesh’s role in removing travel-related obstacles.
- Vishwakarma and Divine Engineering: Lord Vishwakarma is the divine architect who built the flying chariot Pushpak Viman and other celestial vehicles. Worshipping him during Vahan Pooja ensures the vehicle functions well and remains free from technical faults.
- Navagraha Influence: In Vedic astrology, planetary positions can affect travel safety. Chanting Navagraha mantras during Vahan Pooja helps neutralize graha dosh and protect the vehicle from sudden mishaps or delays.
🕯️ Pooja Vidhi (How to Perform)
- Clean the vehicle thoroughly and decorate with flowers, turmeric, and kumkum
- Place a small idol or image of Ganesh on the dashboard or bonnet
- Break a coconut in front of the vehicle to remove vighn (obstacles)
- Apply tilak on the vehicle’s front and wheels using turmeric and vermillion
- Light incense sticks and ghee lamp near the vehicle
- Chant Ganesh Atharvashirsha and Vishwakarma mantras or offer silent prayers
- Optional: perform a small havan or recite Navagraha Stotra
- Conclude with aarti and distribute prasad to family and staff

📅 Shubh Samay (When to Perform)
Best performed on the day of vehicle purchase, during shubh muhurat, Ganesh Chaturthi, Vishwakarma Jayanti, or any auspicious weekday like Monday or Thursday. Avoid performing during Rahu Kaal.
